Nippara Limestone Cave

Okutama Town, Nishitama District, Tokyo

Nippara Limestone Cave

The cave interior maintains a constant 11°C throughout the year — refreshingly cool in summer and warm in winter. Boasting a scale unrivaled in the Kanto region, the cave unfolds with a series of fantastical landscapes: the solemn Byakui Kannon, the Gama Rock resembling a giant frog, and the seemingly endless Tenjoshirazu that draws you into the distant past. The newly discovered section is a world unto itself, crowded with magnificently grown stalagmites and pillars. It is the undisputed highlight of the approximately 40-minute cave tour. Icicle-like stalactites take 200 years to grow just 3 centimeters, while upward-growing stalagmites require 400 years. Come and marvel at the mysteries of nature beyond imagination.

Byakui Kannon (White-Robed Kannon)

Among the stalagmites standing like Buddhist statues, this is the most imposing. Its divine, otherworldly presence is said to evoke the appearance of the White-Robed Kannon, which is the origin of its name.

Kongo-zue (Diamond Staff)

A slender stalagmite standing approximately 2.5 meters tall. Its impressive growth lives up to its name — the Diamond Staff.

Suikinkutsu (Water Harp)

A world of pure, crystalline sound produced by water droplets falling into a water-filled jar. Listen closely to its ethereal, profound resonance.
