Usa City
Usa City in Oita Prefecture is a place of great significance for sumo, Japan’s national sport.
A Yokozuna named Futabayama once set the remarkable record of 69 consecutive wins in sumo.
It is here in Usa City that Futabayama was born,
and that record has yet to be broken.
For these reasons, Usa City is known as the “holy land of sumo,”
and national championships for university and high school students are held here every year.
